The Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction…who needs it?

When most people think of chiropractic corrections, they think of neck pain, back pain, or muscle aches. The Atlas Orthogonal Spinal Correction can help your body work better no matter what type of health problem you may have. Our office is dedicated to correcting the Atlas Subluxation Complex which is a misalignment of the C1 atlas bone found in the neck. This misalignment can block the communication between your brain and body causing pain, stress, and tension. This stress and tension can affect all physical and even mental activity of the body. Many symptoms can be relieved by correction of the Atlas Subluxation Complex. We have had positive results with such conditions as:

What else can Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic care do?

Atlas Orthogonal spinal corrections can help you and your family resolve pain and suffering and can aid in the healthy growth and development of your children. Precision spinal care can eliminate the need for medication and surgery in many cases. After you have experienced the results of Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction for yourself, tell someone else about your experience, and help us overcome the ignorance, prejudice and superstition about spinal care.

Are X-Rays necessary?

Yes. It is important that certain X-rays be made. To see is to know, to not see is to guess. An Atlas Orthogonist will never guess about your health. He/she has had extensive X-ray training and will never require X-ray studies which are not vital to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.

How is the treatment determined?

The treatment is decided upon after a thorough evaluation of the patient’s symptoms and prior health history. Combining that information with the results of any orthopedic, neurological chiropractic examination, leg measurements, motion & static palpation, and X-ray studies, the doctor is able to pinpoint accurately the source of the problem and decide upon the best plan of health care.

How do I maintain my Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction?

Patients often ask what holds the spine in place once it has been corrected. When the head and neck have been re-placed to their natural position, the body will regain its normal balance and relationship to gravity. This will release tension held by the body due to its compensated stressed position. A relaxed body structure is now more stable and functions more freely. This, along with some specific instructions about body position, movement and exercises and nutrition will allow the correction to hold for weeks, months and sometimes even years. In more advanced cases of spinal decay a longer time may be indicated. The doctor will give recommendations based on an individual’s needs following a thorough exam and x-rays, which includes atlas specific x-rays.

Tips to Maintain Alignment

  • Do not hold the phone between your head and shoulder.
  • Do not prop up in bed to read, watch television, or do computer work.
  • Be careful when doing housework. Avoid activities over the head. Limit activities that involve pushing, such as moving heavy furniture or vacuuming.
  • Do not slouch while seated on a couch.
  • When sitting in a chair lean back to support your weight.
  • Do not carry heavy purses on your shoulder. Only place necessary items in your bag to avoid the unwanted additional weight. Make the purse part of your body weight by cradling it in the front as you would a baby.
  • Do not sleep on your stomach.
  • Sleep on properly supported pillow and bed.
  • When getting into the car sit down facing the door and then turn around facing the front. When getting out turn toward the door and get up.
  • Do not crack your own neck or back.
  • Be sure to follow the doctor’s recommended schedule for your individual case. Do not skip recommended appointments.

How Long Does an Adjustment Last?

The accuracy of the procedure affords the patient longer lasting relief. And while the Atlas can again lose its proper alignment, for most patients the procedure results in far fewer visits than most other procedures. The end result is that Atlas Orthogonal provides simple, gentle and dramatic results. This provides greater relief and better health.

What can I expect after my first correction?

After the first Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction, you may experience a variety of changes within your body. These are due to the nervous system responding to the structural correction. Symptoms are a positive sign that healing is taking place. In order to heal, the body must go through different cycles of repair which very often
express themselves in some of the following ways:

  • Alleviation of symptoms
  • A feeling of well being and a decrease of anxiety
  • Muscle stiffness/Soreness
  • Tiredness or sleepiness

Symptoms may decrease immediately and never return. You should not be concerned if the pain changes or moves to another area of the body. Changes are expected as part of the healing process. However, the amount of misalignment and severity of the condition will determine the recovery time. Please make the doctor aware of
any and all changes.

Does it hurt?

The Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction is painless and barely felt by the patient. Because of the precise X-ray analysis and precise percussion instrument, a correction can be made without any forceful jerking or twisting movements.

How does this unique method differ from general chiropractic care?

One of the most obvious differences is the gentle, painless way in which An Atlas Orthogonist works. No manipulation (twisting or cracking) is ever employed or needed and the relief is instantaneous. This is due to the anatomical relationship of the atlas bone and the C1& C2 nerve roots.

What exactly is an Atlas Orthogonist?

The Atlas Orthogonist is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic who, in addition to six or more years of education, utilizes a light force method of specifically adjusting the spine. The Atlas Orthogonist has undergone extensive training specializing in correcting spinal misalignment by using the atlas orthogonal percussion instrument. This method is gentle and effective and requires post graduate training.

The Atlas Orthogonal system is a painless and safe spinal correction which restores body balance and increases the body’s natural healing ability. Our clinic uses the Atlas Orthogonal system of health care exclusively, to care for our patients. This precision form of upper cervical spinal correction painlessly restores body balance without forceful movements or twisting of the neck or back.

What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache.

What causes trigger points?

Trigger points have several causes. Some common causes of trigger points are: birth trauma, an injury sustained in a fall or accident, poor posture, or overexertion, vertebral subluxations and overuse of certain muscle groups with repetitive motion.

What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Manual pressure & massage vibration using a G5 instrument is applied to deactivate trigger points that may cause local pain and/or referred pain and other sensations, such as headaches, in other parts of the body.

G5® Definition

The G5® is an electro-mechanical massage unit used by health-care professionals world-wide to provide their clients and patients with powerful deep massage, & percussion resulting in faster healing time & a reduction in tension build-up or muscle pain

What is the purpose of Trigger Point Therapy?

The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.
